phony outrage over "loyalty oaths" or just forgetful?

so, presumably to mitigate the offset of the 36% of democrats and 41% of "independents" who comprise ron paul's base of support, the virginia gop is planning on having primary voters sign a "loyalty pledge" agreement stating that they'll vote for the gop candidate in the general election.

having lived longer than fifteen minutes, i predicted that this would set off a storm of fulsome moral shock on progressive blogs, and sure enough i was correct. allow me to reproduce some examples from rawstory:

This highlights the difference between Republicans and Democrats.   If the Democrats tried this, their voters would refuse to participate in the primary.

Damn the GOP and the south.  You want civil war I'm locked and loaded.  Bring it ASSHOLES!

You vill stand vizz your feet together und raise your right hand to zee fatherland.Seig Heil!

After you sign the GOP loyalty oath you have to raise your hand in the Sieg Heil fashion, click your heels, and then cry because it's a moment that means more to your life than your wedding vows, your high school graduation night, even more than partaking of the bread and wine at your church.

OMG...now they're telling people how to vote. Fascists...everyone of them.Who's taking away your freedoms now baggers?

"Ich schwöre bei Gott diesen heiligen Eid, daß ich dem Führer des Amerikanisch Reiches und Volkes, Mitt Romney, dem Oberbefehlshaber der Wehrmacht, unbedingten Gehorsam leisten und als tapferer Soldat bereit sein will, jederzeit für diesen Eid mein Leben einzusetzen.

You say you are a member of the party but PROVE IT! Maybe Party members should wear an arm band, little band of red with a white circle and an elephant superimposed in the circle? Oh Red Team, how you long to have torch lit parades down city streets in the middle of the night. Oh how you wish you could wipe America clean of all the black people, the gays, the secularists, the muslims, the immigrants.

More evidence that the right-wing does not believe in democracy.

Loyalty Oath?   Told ya the GOP is trying it's best to resurrect Fascism.  What next, armbands or pins to easily recognize the 'loyal party members"?

An unconstitutional tactic borrowed from the KKK.

...so you see, a lot of that comparing public figures to hitler stuff progressives are notably averse to, but my favorite was the first one i quoted, because it perfectly sets the table for anyone with a memory of the previous presidential election to eat their lunch. because in 2008, the democrat party had primary voters sign loyalty oaths and progressive commentators were apoplectic at the notion that gop voters didn't take them seriously. progressives actually wanted the election boards to monitor conservative websites and track down interlopers and put them in jail. enjoy the video:
