oslo bombing: an experiment in prognostication

UPDATE: Oslo Bomber cited charles johnson in his internet postings

t least seven people were murdered by a bomb set off in the government offices in oslo today. the story is developing. i have no idea who specifically is responsible and i have no interest in guessing while the sirens still blare and the dust still settles.

i do have one prediction, though, and i'm going to see how correct it is right here before your very eyes. my prediction is this: somewhere in the thread relevant to the bombing in oslo at littlegreenfootballs, there will be at least one mention of republicans or teabaggers.

i know this sounds like a petty and small commentary in light of the ongoing situation in oslo, and i mean no disrespect toward the dead and injured, but if i am correct in my prediction, i would certainly have uncovered a level of commentary quite a bit more petty and callous.

on my honor, i have not looked at lgf yet today. having said that, i open a new tab...

...thirteen comments in, albusteve is the first to mention republicans in a bizarre non-sequitur:
well, they are back, whoever they are...wonder how long before the GOP tries to slash funding for the NSA, CIA, Pentagon intelligence, satellite intel etc etc...

...but that's not exactly what we're looking for.

...spacejesus get's the ball rolling...
What the hell did Norway ever do? I can see why conservatives would hate it, as it stands as a shining example of successful socialism, but what the hell? Norway?

...recusancy replies...
well... islamists are conservatives.

...obdicut piles on...
Well, Al-Queda are pretty damn conservative.

...it's the lgf a-listers. not newbs or "sleepers" or "trolls".

ericus58, in reply to obdicut, betrays the community's disappointment that this terrorist attack, which has killed at least seven so far, can't be pinned on their domestic political enemies...
If only he actually meant that group of conservatives...

...sanfransiscozionist enters the discussion concealing his disappointment with sarchasm...
It's a long way from bitching on Hot Air to car bombs in Oslo. OK, the Tea Party is also ruled out, barring further evidence.

...obdicut comments a similar vein...
The Tea Party is ruled out because of incompetence.

but the party isn't over. the thread predictably veers from the news of the attack and towards scrutiny of the comments sections of conservative websites. in the midst of this sickeningly inappropriate partisan sneering, they have the moral blindness to critique the relative "classiness" of pamela gellar's post on the subject:

151 Killgore Trout
Pam Geller...

But remember, jihad is not the problem. New York's 911, London's 7/7, Madrid's 3/11, Bali, Mumbai, Beslan, Moscow ... is not the problem. "Islamophobia" is the problem. Repeat after me as you bury the dead, "Islamophobia is the probem, Islamophobia is the problem."

Classy.

some of the other items (implicitly connecting the attack in oslo with norway's progressivism) plucked from conservative blogs by the lgf a-listers are almost as crass and inappropriate as the lgf a-lister's own comments. if it appears my criticism is selective here, i hope i can be permitted the perennial liberal caveat that it is not their cherry-picking which offends, but their hypocrisy in doing so.

it isn't entirely so, though. to react to a terrorist bombing on another continent with free-association with one's domestic political opponents isn't just crass, calumnious and anti-pluralistic. it's also absurd and a little bit crazy in a way which isn't concealable with a "sarc tag".

and i knew that it was what i would find at lgf before going there, because it's always like that.
